Introduction: Twickenham Yacht Club is the only sailing club in Richmond and Twickenham. On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the summer we race between Eel Pie Island and Marble Hill Park. We also organize special events including a week in the summer, sailing dinghies on the South Coast. The Club has an active cruiser section. Wet moorings are available opposite the Clubhouse situated 50 metres from the White Swan heading towards Twickenham. We have a bar on the upper deck and facilities on the lower deck include table football and table tennis. Children are very welcome. The Club is situated on Riverside Twickenham, near the end of Sion Road between York House Italian Garden and the White Swan Public House. We have a licensed bar and catering facilities together with access to a pontoon on the river. On the lower deck we have table tennis and a football machine which are particularly popular with junior members. The bar is open every Sunday at midday, as well as every Wednesday and Friday evenings throughout the year. Dry berths, for dinghies although restricted in number, are situated 100 yards downstream from the Clubhouse, behind the Mary Wallace Theatre. Wet moorings are also available although it is most likely there will be a waiting list. Sailing: There are three main classes in the club. These are: Enterprise, Solo and National 12. There is a Summer and Winter racing season. The Summer season runs from March until October with racing on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Winter racing takes place on Sunday mornings. Each Summer many of the sailors and other members migrate to our sister Yacht Club at Keyhaven on the south coast for what is known as Twickenham Week. In addition there are members who actively sail on the South Coast. There are opportunities for club members to crew in both racing and social events. Cruising: Our active cruiser section extends a very warm welcome to all. The cruising year starts with the TYC fitting out supper where we start to finalise our planning for the year ahead. We have a full and varied programme with some new events complementing our much cherished more traditional ones. There are Friday evening cruises and cruises to Hampton Court and Isleworth. We also have a cruiser trailing section with trips to Chichester Harbour, Keyhaven and a week in Falmouth. TYC offers the opportunity to enjoy cruising in company and individual cruising with trophies for the best up river and down river log books awarded at the TYC annual ball. Other social events for the cruiser section include the October laying up festival and the November mud lark mooring parties. Social: The club has a broad range of social events encompassing sailing, cruising and seasonal activities. We commence the programme with the Start of Season Party held around Easter time. In July we have the Yacht Regatta and to celebrate this we host a Bar-B-Que for up to 100 people; the Marquee is erected at this time of year. There are a variety of special events such as quiz evenings, moules or paella dinners also Sunday lunches, which run throughout the season. In November we have the Laying Up Supper in the lower deck of the clubhouse to review the seasons sailing - a very jolly event. Christmas comes with Carol singing; a raffle and a great party. The culmination of the years social events is the Yacht Club Annual Ball and Prize Giving - held locally at an impressive venue. Shorebased Training: TYC has been awarded the status of a RYA Training Centre in 2011. The club is now able to offer courses in the following subjects:- Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (4 wks).
