GXSA (Gerrards Cross Sailing Association)
Wednesday February 4th, Archie & Doreen Annan, A Fleeting View of the Black Sea.
After many years assisting in the organisation of the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) for around 100 yachts and later "The Black Sea Rally" (KAYRA) honorary GXSA members, Doreen and Archie realised the potential for cruising in the Black Sea. In 2000 they spent the Summer in Ukraine and wrote their first book "Cruise Ukraine". This was well received, and in 2001 they visited the remaining 5 countries covering in all 180 anchorages. This information was published in December 2001 as "Cruise the Black Sea". Sailing in such unknown waters resulted in many exciting and interesting experiences.
Wednesday February 11th, Don and Jacky Wark, Meandering through the Midi.
Don & Jacky, Sailing Today contributors, took the lazy way from Honfleur to the Med in their 29ft Snapdragon then on to Biscay along the Midi & Garonne canals. They have taken four years and will share their experiences with us, and in particular describe the section of the Canal du Midi from Port Camargue to Port Royan.
Wednesday February 18th, Bob Hazell, Overlord.
Past Commodore of the Offshore Cruising Club Bob Hazell will outline the history of Windfall Yachts which consisted of a fleet of over 100 high quality wooden offshore yachts taken as reparations from Germany after the 2nd World War. One of these "Overload" is now a charter boat for members of the Offshore Cruising Club (OCC). Bob will give us an overview of the history of the Yachts, the OCC and illustrate some of "Overlord's" past cruises and future plans.
Wednesday February 25th, Jimmy Cornell, A Passion for the Sea.
GXSA is privileged to have Jimmy Cornell as a speaker. Jimmy is renown in world Offshore Cruising Circles as the author of the World Cruising Routes and World Cruising Handbook. He organised the first ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) and the round the world Millennium Odyssey rally. In the last 35 years, Jimmy has sailed 200,000 miles, including 3 circumnavigations and 2 voyages to Antarctica. He will talk about planning an offshore voyage: to the Med, across the Atlantic or right round the world, with a detour to Antarctica.
