My programme for the next few months is as follows:
4 - 9 July: 5 day sailing course
9 - 11 July: 2 day weekend sail
25 - 30 July: 5 day sailing course
6 - 8 August: Budget weekend sail
15 - 20 August: 5 day sailing course
10 - 12 September: Budget weekend sail
12 - 17 September: 5 day sailing course
19 - 26 September: Possible charter Greece. (out of Athens)
1 - 3 October: Budget weekend sail
17 - 24 October: Possible charter Greece. (out of Athens)
For the Greece trips, I am planning on chartering an 11 berth 50' yacht and taking 8 people, two have already expressed an interest. For the September charter the cost is 450 a head, for the October charter it will be 375 I must have eight guests, otherwise the charter becomes uneconomic. I hope those wishing to come will be flexible enough so that if one trip does not fill up, they will be able to switch to the other. The costs which are include charter fee, food on board, fuel and moorings. So flights, airport taxes and transport from/to the airport, and evening meals ashore are not included. We will do anything you want (within reason and weather willing), tideless navigation and pilotage, sailing skills, night sailing, skills at all levels from Yachtmaster down to competent crew, and enjoying some of the local atmosphere as well. Or, if you wish, nothing at all, just watch the fanatics sailing.
Other possibilities are:
Long weekend cross channel. For those with experience.
Corporate sailing. How's about taking a bunch of friends or those who work with you for either a day or a weekend on the water?
Heavy weather sailing. When weather gets that way. We had one weekend last year, but though the wind was f7 gusting f8 we never deployed the series drogue.
There may be an opportunity this autumn for:
Astro proving passage. 600 miles out and back to/from the western approaches, take some sights, show them to an assessor and become a Yachtmaster Ocean. (You do need to have completed the theory course and have an idea of how to use a sextant).
Mileage building. 800 miles + during 7 days at sea. Learn all about conducting a longish passage.
Theory courses. If you have a group of four or more, I can come to Mohammed, if needs be, to run courses at any level. I run these over three weekends, one a month over three months. I also run these from Cheltenham. This way those taking part get a chance to do the background reading, homework, the exercises and not be drained each night during a concentrated six day course. Day Skipper, Yachtmaster and Astro navigation, and radio certificate (one day) all taught.
Help needed for a delivery. A bit short notice. A friend is bringing his boat, a Consort 36, back from the west country this month and may need crew. His plans (as at 16th June) are slightly vague at the moment but probably over the weekend 17/18 July +, he will cruise back either from Falmouth or Plymouth via Salcombe, Dartmouth, Weymouth, Lulworth, Poole to Lymington. Please email Pete Cunningham at pete.cunningham@ie2.co.uk if interested.
Even shorter notice. I still have berths available on a weekend sailing course (any level of competence) 9-11 July, any takers?
