GXSA (Gerrards Cross Sailing Association)
Wednesday 1st December, John Gorrie and John Rugg, Round the Big Island
John Gorrie and John Rugg, both members of GXSA will describe their circumnavigation of Great Britain earlier this year in Gnutcracker IV, a Beneteau Oceanis 373 auxiliary sloop. The clockwise voyage from Portsmouth went westwards to Cornwall, across the Irish Sea to Cork, the East coast of Ireland then to the West coast of Scotland, north around Cape Wrath through the Pentland Firth and then down the East Coast towards London before passing the North Foreland, Dover and returning to Portsmouth. The 79 day trip was only one day less than Jules Verne's fictional character Philleas Fogg's trip around the World. They have many stories, some of which they will recount with vigour, these we're told will include full and unforgettable instructions on how to use an Irish diver to unblock a holding tank! This should be a most enjoyable fun evening. Do come along and learn how they did it.
Wednesday December 8th, Your committee presents An Evening of Eclectic Eccentric Entertainment: Tales of the unexpected
Our traditional Christmas "send off" with entertainment by an "all member celebrity cast" of your old favourites. Each will give a short presentation to delight us on things nautical. Mulled wine and mince pies will be on offer, there will be a cruising quiz devised by Ken Bottrell, and the ever popular photographic competition. For the competition you will need to bring along your 6"x4" prints taken within the last two years. The photos must be in the following three categories: scenic, humorous, and nautical (boats and sailing). Winners will receive a prize and have their work published on the website. Come along to enjoy the show and wish your fellow members a Merry Christmas. May your committee take the opportunity to wish you and your families all a very Happy Christmas and fair winds for 2011.
