Hobbs of Henley
Welcome to our autumn newsletter!
As summer draws to a close and we have time to reflect over the last couple of months, we look back with enjoyment as we've had another cracking season when we saw record numbers of people at Hobbs when the sun was shining. Over the summer, we welcomed back Norman Cook and Zoe Ball, James Cracknell popped in to visit and we even had Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden on board! We really enjoyed hosting the Breakfast show with BBC Radio Berkshire's Maggie Philbin one early August morning when we had most stunning sunrise! For the third year running, Hobbs of Henley were the official River Taxi providers for the ever popular Rewind Festival. Henley saw swarms of eighties revivalists flock to our beautiful town in scorching sunshine and thousands of festival goers used the river to get there and back. We received many thank you letters from people who used our services saying that the river taxis helped enhance the whole festival experience. We look forward to working with the organisers again in 2012.
Over the summer months, we have also ran a couple of competitions. Karen Howells won a twelve seater boat for the day with her winning poem based on 'what do you love about Henley' and Rebecca Dixon was the winner of our competition in the Henley Standard and they won two tickets to the Roger Winslet Jazz Cruise at the end of September. Our current competition is one for the kids! Please visit our website at for full details.
Summer crept back for a few days in late September which left us rushed off our feet which enabled our boat hire season to finish with a bang.
Even though the summer season has come to a close, there is still loads happening at Hobbs, so if you have any enquiries, then please do call us on 01491 572 035 or visit our website for more information. Don't forget our Santa Cruises for the kids as well as our Christmas party nights!
Hobbs on film!
Now you can enjoy year round views of Hobbs and the river Thames in Henley thanks to the newly installed webcam on our Premises. Here at Hobbs of Henley we have teamed up with Farson Digital who have installed Henley's first webcam as part of their national network of riverside webcams aimed at fisherman. Views from the webcam will be on the Hobbs of Henley homepage, so you can check the weather, traffic and river conditions all year round! The Henley webcam is Farson's first camera located on the river Thames!
Regional TV and radio for Hobbs
Not only will we now be on film all year round, but we were also featured on ITV Meridian and BBC Radio Berkshire during the record breaking Indian summer this year.
As temperatures hit nearly 30 degrees in October, BBC Berkshire's DJ Andrew Peach chose to broadcast his morning show from our premises, interviewing our MD Jonathan Hobbs on how the great weather was giving us a late boost to our boat hire season.
Challenge Henley Triathlon
We were very excited to be working alongside the organisers of Challenge Henley Triathlon, a new event for Henley which took place during September. Hobbs provided River Taxis for spectators and competitors . The event was deemed to be a huge success by the competitors and the locals in Henley. We hope to see this event back next year and will continue to help with River Taxis supporting this great event addition to the Henley events calendar.
The Chiltern Centre
Hobbs of Henley hosted a fundraising Lunch Cruise aboard The New Orleans in September in aid of The Chiltern Centre for Disabled Children in Henley.
Jonathan Hobbs was moved to donate The New Orleans free of charge, after hearing of an Appeal to raise 350,000 to secure the Centre's future.
Passengers attending the cruise included Henley MP John Howell, Anne Ducker - leader of South Oxfordshire District Council, and Sir William and Lady McAlpine.

GXSA Programme Autumn 2011
We are pleased to announce Gerrards Cross Sailing Association's programme of talks for the Autumn which can be found on our website.
You will agree that this excellent programme which has a wide appeal from Lucy Hone telling us about Hurtigruten and its coastal voyages in Norway and beyond, through to talks for cruising yachtsman and those interested in traditional boatbuilding.
The high point of the programme is a one day "Masterclass" when Jimmy Cornell, a well known author and ocean voyager will give a one day illustrated "teach in" on Ocean Sailing.
