Sealife Trips 2012
Sealife-adventures is a Visit Scotland 4 star Wild Life Experience. We run wildlife, whirlpool and whale watching trips from our purpose-built easy access pontoon and private car park on Seil, a scenic 30 minute drive south of Oban. Our boat offers a unique combination of uncrowded comfort, stability and exceptional speed from silenced twin engines.
All trips are skippered by David, a marine biologist who has been an owner/skipper in this area for 25 years. Our enthusiastic wildlife guide will provide commentary and an endless supply of hot drinks and biscuits - there is a washroom.
We've had some great trips this May with good sightings particularly of eagles and some dolphins, and are looking forward to the summer ahead!
We have scheduled the following trips for the next few days, pre-booking is strongly advised. We can schedule in other trips to suit you.
Please phone us on 01852 300 203 (eve and weekend) or 01631 57 10 10 (office hours), if you wish to book or for more information or if you wish us to schedule in more trips.

Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society

BRIDLINGTON'S SAILING COBLE

The sailing coble Three Brothers was built one hundred years ago, in 1912. The Society has chosen June 17 as the day to celebrate the event and ask the public to join us in keeping this unique vessel afloat. She is currently unable to sail as she desperately needs refurbishment.
The estimate for repairs is 45,000 but this does not include VAT. A grant application has been submitted to the Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) and there is a possibility of a 60%/40% grant. The Society will find it very hard to fund its percentage of the required amount, and having to pay VAT on top of that may well make it impossible for us to give to go-ahead for repairs.
We would need 20% of the 45,000 as VAT - a total of 9,000 - making a breathtaking total of 54,000. We have already received many generous donations but need more - many, many more.
Members of the Society are mostly elderly, giving their free time to staff the Bridlington Harbour Heritage Museum, right on the harbourside, our only way of creating revenue. We have neither the wisdom nor experience to know how to find this money, nor the physical bodies to carry out any of the required work. Even painting the vessel - she's 40ft long - is beyond many of us.
For the people of Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coast, the Three Brothers should be a permanent symbol of our history. Fishing is an essential aspect of our background and to allow the coble to disappear would be unthinkable. This vessel is as important to this region as the Cutty Sark, Mary Rose, Endeavour or Victory are to the nation. Three Brothers is the last of its kind and should not be lost. The vessel is now on the National Register of Historic Ships (No. 2463), joining the town's pleasure cruiser Yorkshire Belle.
At 2pm on Sunday, June 17, Bridlington's town crier will declare the vessel to be one hundred years old and we hope local people and visitors to the town will join us in celebration. What a spectacle it would be if everyone turned up on the harbour in suitable costume, as fishermen and their wives, members of the Ladies' Lifeboat Guild and their gentlemen, and the gentry of the town. Please bring a picnic to share on the harbour.
Donations can be made by cheque - payable to BSCPS - and sent to BSCPS, Harbour Office, West End, Bridlington, East Yorkshire YO15 3AN. Alternatively a payment may be made via PayPal to the Treasurer at michael.wilson@tesco.net. Everyone who donates over 25 will receive a certificate of thanks.
Mike Wilson can be contacted on 01262 609228.

Hobbs of Henley Summer Newsletter
Welcome to our summer newsletter.
Firstly I would like to apologise for the delay of this newsletter (a month late!) but we have had such a busy time (even with the unseasonal weather) with the Queen's Jubilee, River Pageants impending Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Festival and not to mention the Olympics! What a year! But better late than never and at least I can promise you a 'newsey' newsletter!
Well despite the weather trying to do its best to spoil things our Jubilee Cruises still were a success. People came out and enjoyed themselves, waving their flags aboard 'The New Orleans' in true British style to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee!
With the Olympics around the corner we are all starting to get the 'Olympic Fever' especially here at Hobbs. The Oscar award winning director Danny Boyle has been given the task of making the Olympic opening ceremony film. A sequence of this film will be shot in Henley on Temple Island. We and our vessels will be assisting with the filming of this sequence!
Moving into the summer we still have some fantastic summer cruises to come over the next few months if you fancy something a little different; and don't miss out on our great offers running on our website. Also this Autumn do look out for our new online calendar which will be going live - this will give people availability for our larger passenger vessels and will eventually allow our customers to make online bookings!
Jonathan Hobbs has had an exciting few months, in April, Hobbs of Henley joined forces with the Anne Diamond Show on BBC Berkshire where they left the studio to spend a week on the Thames. Jonathan was interviewed by the team about life on the river and running the business.
In May Jonathan as a Trustee with the charity Rivertime Boat Trust was invited to the Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and I am pleased to say that this particular charity was awarded a medal to recognise their charitable work in the voluntary sector.
In June Jonathan and other members of the Hobbs family have the honour of being invited to the Henley Business School for a Diamond Jubilee Garden Party where the Queen will attend with the Duke of Edinburgh. From here the Queen will view Henley's own River Pageant where both the vessels 'Enchantress' and 'The New Orleans' have been invited to attend in the procession.
Lastly we would like to welcome a new member to the Hobbs team. Stephen Gould joined us in April as our new skipper for the 'Hibernia'. He has over 10 years experience of working on the river having previously worked with Thames River Cruises and French Brothers of Windsor.
I would just like to take this opportunity to say thank you for reading our Newsletter and showing an interest in our business. We at Hobbs of Henley wish you all a lovely (sunny!) summer!
