AGM and Film Evening Wednesday March 13th - Dylan Winter - 'Keep Turning Left'
Dylan Winter is a Film and TV cameraman who bought a small boat, a Mirror offshore 'Super Slug', in Bembridge five years ago and has since been progressing at a sedate pace anticlockwise round Britain, often singlehanded, going to the head of navigation of each river or estuary he encounters. To date he has reached the Humber via the Norfolk Broads. He is recording his adventures in a well researched "Video Blog" which describes the places he visits, his observations and thoughts. This is not another rushed round Britain cruise, more a series of relaxed contemplations which have neither a beginning nor end. We had hoped that Dylan would have been able to join us in person which will not be possible. Instead we will enjoy some of his films which should give us ample time to complete our AGM proceedings.
GXSA Talk Wednesday March 6th - Rob Johnstone - Vagabond wanders round Britain
Sometime in 2010, GXSA member Rob thought it would be a good idea to buy an old boat, do her up and like several GXSA members previously, sail round Britain before the Zimmer took pride of place in his home. The reality is very different, fascinating and full of intrigue - come along and hear the actual story. He did the voyage to show people, particularly those with disabilities, that there are no limits to what can be accomplished in life; and to raise money for a non profit sailing program for people with disabilities based in Annapolis, Maryland. Matt is on a short visit to the UK to receive the prestigious OCC's Jester Medal donated by the Jester Trust, and awarded for an outstanding contribution to the art of singlehanded sailing. He will be presented with this coveted award at a special dinner the day following this talk. We are both privileged and honoured that he has agreed to talk to us. The event will be held at All Saint's Church Hall, Oval Way Gerrards Cross, SL9 8QB which is just over 1m north of our usual venue. The hall is located behind the church. There is adequate on-street parking near the church and some limited extra parking immediately adjacent to the hall. The talk will start at 20:15hr (doors open 19:30hr). Admission 5 for non GXSA members - refreshments available.
