Rivers in Cornwall
Camel
The Camel is the only river estuary of any size on the north coast. Padstow and Rock are situated on the Camel.
River Tamar
Cornwall lies to the west of the River Tamar. It also borders Devon at the River Tamar.
River Fal, Falmouth
- Falmouth harbour is reputed to be the third largest natural harbour in the world.
- Falmouth is known as the sailing and yachting capital of the county.
- Falmouth harbour has been described as both beautiful and tranquil.
- The harbour has a backdrop of green hills next to the water, and further up the river are steep banks lined with trees that run to the water's edge.
- The harbour is also rich in sealife and wildlife. There are lots of seals, out catching fish, or at low tide basking in the sun at the entrance to the Harbour. Basking sharks have also been spotted in recent summers (some around 17 feet long). Dolphins are sometimes spotted inside the harbour, playing with the passing vessels. Plenty of birdlife too, herons, egrets, cormorants, and numerous varieties of gull.
- Luxury vessels line the Fal Estuary, and during the Falmouth sailing regatta yachts congregate.
- Small inlets such as St Just and Restronguet offer sheltered moorings and anchorages for cruising yachts.
- Since 1170, boats have travelled up the River Fal to the port of Truro.
- Old-fashioned oyster boats can sometimes be seen training the river.
Coastline in Cornwall
Cornwall is surrounded by the English Channel and Celtic Sea. As the tip of the south west peninsula of
the UK, Cornwall is exposed to winds blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean. The north coastline of Cornwall
is more exposed. There are also lots of fine sandy beaches on the north coast. There are also boat trips
which cross the Bristol Channel between north Cornwall and Wales.
The south coast of Cornwall is more sheltered. The beaches are often coarser sand or shingle.
There are various estuaries on the south coast.

Cornwall is located in the south west of England, on the peninsula.

Boscastle, Bude, Falmouth, Fowey, Kynance Cove, Lands End, Lizard Peninsula, Looe, Mevagissey,
Newquay, Padstow, Penzance, Perranporth, Polzeath, Porthtowan, Rock, St Agnes,
St Austell, St Ives, Tintagel, Trebetherick and Truro.
Cornwall also includes the Isles of Scilly, which can be reached by ferry, helicopter and aeroplane.
